Tips for Traveling with Your Pet by Car

Traveling with your pets requires a bit of planning. You want to make sure your animals are safe and comfortable for the car ride, regardless of how long it might take. At Lithia Subaru of Oregon City, we have a few tips to make it easier for you to travel with your dog or other pet.

Place your pet inside of a well-ventilated carrier or crate. Larger animals can go directly on the seat as long as they are secured sufficiently. Consider letting your pet get accustomed to the car with short rides. Then, gradually increase the length of the ride.

Don’t feed your pet right before going on the trip. Instead, feed them a small meal a few hours before the trip. Encourage your pet to go to the bathroom before getting into the car. Then, make a few potty breaks along the way. Be sure to bring vaccination records, food, water, and bowls with you.
