Interpreting NHTSA Vehicle Safety Ratings

At our showroom here at Lithia Subaru of Oregon City, we're committed to our customers' safety. In addition to selling the safest cars, we want our customers to understand the extensive tests that our vehicles are subject to so they can feel confident in the safety of any vehicle they purchase from us.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Association (NHTSA) publishes the results of its crash test through a star rating system with 5-star ratings awarded to vehicles that perform the best. Each test has a different set of criteria on which to base the star rating.

The NHTSA is most concerned with crash prevention, unlike the IIHS which tests for protection in the case of accidents. Thus, a 5-star NHTSA rating means the lowest likelihood of the relevant type of accident.

Stop by our showroom to test drive vehicles that have been award five starts in multiple NHTSA tests.
